Backcountry Yoga Level 1 Certification

20 hrs (14 hrs contact 6 hrs non-contact)

Designed for:

New and experienced yoga teachers, as well as mind-body fitness instructors, outdoor professionals, outdoor enthusiasts, and others working in healing, and teaching professions. You are not required to be 200 hr certified to take this training, however you must complete 200hr training to be considered for collaboration, hire, or listing on teacher directory

Methodology:
Lecture, demonstration, partnered exercises and practice-teaching of dynamic outdoor sequences, discussions, questions and answers, and a training manual, outdoor recreation, take home work, take home exam, shadowing.

You will receive:
A Certification of Completion. This can be used for Yoga Alliance CEU hours based on hours of program
An extensive training manual compiled by Laura Loewy
A list of recommended reading and resources
A listing on Backcountry Yoga Teacher Graduate Page
An extensive follow-up guide to online resources for continued study and practice
Ability to list yourself as a Backcountry Yoga Ambassador
An invitation to join an ongoing discussion and resource facebook group for Backcountry Yoga Teachers


Backcountry Yoga Level 2 Certification

16 hrs if you do WFA yourself + 2 Wilderness Workshops (4-6 hrs)
28 hrs if you do WFA through BCY retreat
( Level 1 training is a prerequisite to be considered for Level 2)


If you are already certified in WFA (or above)  you are eligible to be considered Level 2 as long as you complete your Level 1 training + two wilderness workshops in person or online. ( Our online platform to be rolled out by Fall 2018)

Once a year we will offer a WFA yoga retreat that will give you the opportunity to become certified in WFA in a fun creative environment and participate in our continuing education wilderness workshops. Our next retreat is set for May 31-June4

Even if you are already certified in Wilderness Medicine, this retreat could still be for you, as you will have an opportunity to brush up on your skills and enjoy a retreat focused on integrating yoga with wilderness education plus immerse yourself in our continuing education workshops required for level 2

  • Outdoor yoga for recovery

Wilderness First Aid Certification (WFA)

Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, sometimes the wrong care can make things worse. By learning a few basic skills, you can make the difference between a good outcome and a bad one-and maybe even save a life.

WHAT IS TAUGHT? The WFA is 16 hours long, and focuses on the basic skills:
-Response and Assessment
- Musculoskeletal Injuries
-Environmental Emergencies
-Survival Skills
-Soft Tissue Injuries
-Medical Emergencies

Backcountry Yoga Level 1 & 2 Certification Retreat
May 31-June 4

We have teamed up with SOLO Wilderness Medical School to bring this teacher training full circle. In 5 days & 4 nights posted up at the gorgeous Nurture Through Nature retreat center in eco cabins... you'll leave certified in Wilderness First Aid and Backcountry Yoga 's Yoga & Outdoor Leadership principles. Workshops include, but are not limited to: Lunar Sequencing, Plant Identification & Foraging, Natural Art, Creating Sacred Ceremony and much more.

About Backcountry Yoga & Laura Loewy

Laura Loewy started Backcountry Yoga as a passion project in 2015 to help offer new and exciting ways to connect with other yogis in the great outdoors. She is an alumni of the National Outdoor Leadership School, a trained Wilderness First Responder and certified in vinyasa, plant medicine, and teen yoga with over 2000 hours of teaching under her belt.

Laura is focused on offering experiences that make you feel alive. Through soul empowered adventure she seeks to uncover the inner bad ass inside of everyone she meets. If you need some life changing shake up... that includes giving into the flow... getting dirty... and connecting with the earth! She's your girl ;) 

When Laura isn't leading Backcountry Yoga Events, you can find her rock climbing, skiing, hiking, longboarding or teaching yoga in the Cambridge/Somerville area of MA.
